MORROWTAPE
Reporting a bug
Include the version shown on the title screen, whether you are playing MORROWTAPE or MORROWTAPE Demo, your operating system, input device, and what you were doing when the issue occurred. A screenshot or short video is helpful for visual, tuning, and progression problems. Do not send passwords, Steam Guard codes, payment information, or unrelated personal files.
The game will not start
- Restart Steam and your computer.
- Verify the files. In Steam: right-click MORROWTAPE or MORROWTAPE Demo → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
- Update your system. Install pending operating-system and graphics-driver updates from the hardware vendor.
- Test one input device. Disconnect unusual controllers or remapping tools, then try one keyboard and mouse or one controller.
- macOS: do not bypass a Gatekeeper warning. Send us the exact message so we can investigate the distributed build.
The camera will not move
- During a dive, move the mouse or right stick to look left, right, up, and down. Menus and pause intentionally stop camera look.
- Release Tune before testing horizontal look. While Tune is held, horizontal mouse or right-stick movement adjusts the receiver frequency instead of turning the camera. Vertical look remains available at reduced speed.
- Adjust Look sensitivity in Options if the camera feels too slow.
- If movement works but right-stick look does not, restore Steam's official/default controller layout and reconnect the controller.
An anomaly tape will not recover
- Move close to the tape and face it. The receiver should switch to the tape's local carrier.
- Hold Tune and adjust until all five receiver bars illuminate and the display reads PEAK.
- Release Tune, then press Use to recover the tape.
Moving away before recovery intentionally returns the receiver to the active route carrier. If PEAK appears but Use still rejects the tape, send a screenshot showing the frequency, PEAK state, pickup prompt, objective, and dive number.
Controls
Keyboard and mouse: WASD or arrow keys to move, mouse to look, F to hold Tune, A/D or horizontal mouse movement to adjust the dial while tuning, E or Space to Use, Shift to sprint, Q to focus, and Esc to pause. Gamepads use the left stick to move, right stick to look or tune, south face button to Use, and the on-screen prompts for other actions.
Where saves are kept
- Windows:
%AppData%\MORROWTAPE\ - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/MORROWTAPE/
The full game uses morrowtape_save_v1.json; the demo uses
morrowtape_demo_save_v1.json. Each has a same-named .bak recovery copy.
Close both products before copying or moving these files. Demo progress does not transfer to the
full game, and MORROWTAPE does not currently use Steam Cloud.
Sound and accessibility
Master, Music, SFX, and Voice levels can be adjusted independently. Critical audio has visual equivalents through subtitles, descriptive sound captions, receiver bars, frequency text, and the PEAK indicator. Options also include high-contrast presentation, Flicker Reduction, and Camera Effects control. If a barrier prevents play, tell us the platform, input method, resolution, enabled settings, and where it occurs; you do not need to disclose a diagnosis.
WICKLING
Reporting a bug
The most useful thing you can send is the build number. It is on the bottom line of the title screen, and it looks like this:
1.0.0 - a1b2c3d
Include that, your operating system, and what you were doing when it happened. If the game crashed, there is a crash log next to your saves (see below) called last-error.log. Attach it if you have it.
Where saves are kept
- Windows:
%AppData%\Wickling - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Wickling
Saves are also synced through Steam Cloud, so they follow your Steam account to any machine. If a save appears to be missing, launch the game once while signed in to Steam and online. The newest copy of each slot wins, and the cloud copy will be written back to the local disk.
The game will not start
- Verify the files. In Steam: right-click WICKLING → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
- Windows: the game needs
steam_api64.dllnext to the executable. Verifying restores it. - Graphics: the game needs OpenGL 2.1 or DirectX 11-class hardware. It is a 256×240 pixel-art game, so almost anything from the last fifteen years qualifies, but very old integrated graphics or a virtual machine without GPU passthrough may not.
- No sound device is fine. The game runs silent rather than refusing to start.
Photosensitivity and horror intensity
WICKLING contains brief flashing white frames and static as part of its jump scares. Options → Horror → Reduced removes the flashing and the static, keeps the level music instead of the stalker's cue, and makes being caught cost a hit rather than a life. The game remains complete and finishable on that setting.
There is deliberately no setting that removes the stalker itself. If that makes the game unsuitable for you, please refund it. See below.
Controls
Keyboard: arrows or WASD to move, Z or J to run, fire and carry, X or K to jump, Enter to start and pause, Tab or C for items, Esc to go back, F11 for fullscreen. Gamepads use the standard layout and every binding can be changed in Options → Controls.
Refunds
Purchases made through Steam are refunded by Steam, not by us. Use Steam Support. Valve's standard policy is a refund on request within 14 days of purchase and under 2 hours of playtime. We do not have the ability to issue Steam refunds ourselves, and we will not ask you for payment details.
Privacy
MORROWTAPE and WICKLING have no publisher-operated analytics, telemetry, accounts, advertising, or multiplayer services. MORROWTAPE saves remain local and does not currently use Steam Cloud; WICKLING saves may sync through Steam Cloud under your Steam account. See our Privacy Policy for details about the games, this website, and support messages.
